Independent Inventors often come to me to discuss their inventions. They often are not prepared for the expense of an attorney in addition to the fees that have to be paid to the USPTO. I will always advise them that they can apply for and get a patent in the U.S. without an attorney. However, it will take an investment of time to learn about the process and prepare the materials necessary to create and file a successful patent application. Here is some information you may find helpful if you are an independent inventor with more time than money.
